Learn Spanish Deluxe focuses on vocabulary by taking you through a series of different activities. The first sections shows you a word (or words) and asks you to select the correct picture that matches the word. You have the option to listen to the vocabulary as well. The vocabulary is not categorized so you will get completely random words. Another section uses an on-screen keyboard so you can translate the Spanish to English or English to Spanish. Strangely, your keyboard will not function forcing you to select the letters on screen.
There is certainly some confusion around what you are supposed to do. Other activities include hangman, wordfind, matching and flashcards. There are a lack of instructions all around. For example, in the wordfind area you have to select the first and last letter of the word so without knowing you may be struggling for a while trying to select each letter of the word or draw a line through the word.
The vocabulary offered is fairly diverse and more is available through an in-app purchase but without the ability to select categories of study you may not find it very useful.
The app is based on activities and we really like the variety of activities available. We just wish there was more customization or vocabulary selection.
Sentences are limited so don't expect to find too many.
There is no area relating to grammar.
The verb section, noted by the keyboard, has you translate the verb using the on-screen keyboard. There is a reference area for regular verb conjugations for present, future, imperfect and past. That is about the extent of the grammar available. Again you can't focus on only the present for example.
We are looking for Spanish apps that are best suited for students. They need to be rich in Spanish language content.
Spanish Content Score: 12/50
An app also needs to be attractive and function well in order to encourage its use and bring students back to app time and time again. The app should be a Windows 10 universal app that works across Windows 10 devices and screen sizes. Navigation should be intuitive and easy. Paid apps should have a free trial.
This is a Windows app.
The resizing is horrible for narrow views and in some areas displays strange information in others.
There are no problems moving around the app and we do like some of the animations.
The app is fairly basic in it's design and could use something to make it pop. It is almost boring to look at.
The app is free with in-app purchases. The in-purchase button does come up all the time which is very annoying.
DOWNLOAD IT! OR SKIP IT!
We really like the variety of activities in Learn Spanish Deluxe. Without the ability to select vocabulary categories or verb tenses the app falls flat. The errors on the narrow screen sizes are also a serious problem. We can't recommend this app.
